Our feature this time is singer and songwriter Paige Essence!
Bio: A Toronto born Canadian, Paige is a singer, songwriter, actor and dancer, who has mentored with Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo Music Mentoring Program for the last few years. As a film and theatre actor, she is represented by her agent Colin McMurray and Associates. She was a finalist in the Emerging Artist singer category at the Mississauga Arts Council 2019 Marty awards. Current Show Choir Canada Grand Champions with the show choir SPLASH, and is currently a high Soprano in the award winning young women's choir WoCo. She recently won the wildcard entry at the songwriting reviews at IMSTA FESTA for her original song “Van Gogh”.
She is classically trained, and cross trained in contemporary pop, and is currently studying music theatre in Toronto at a specialized art school. She has appeared on stage in almost 20 musicals to date. She also enjoys playing piano, guitar, and ukulele, and she just wrapped recording her first EP Vincent, with the first single "Van Gogh" released on Halloween 2019, with a music video release shortly to follow. “Scared To Love”, “Out Of My Mind”, and “Bittersweet”, are soon to be released in 2020. Artists she admires and loves to cover are Demi Lovato, Billie Eilish, Halsey, Camila Cabello, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Kesha, just to name a few. The style of music she is currently writing is electronic pop. Paige has a soft spot for performing at fundraisers, she opened to a sold out crowd for Halton Women’s Place 40th anniversary Ruby Gala at the Oakville Conference Centre where she sung Kesha’s Praying. She most recently performed at the beautiful Appleby College Chapel for CTV’s Toy Mountain fundraiser campaign. She is an advocate for mental health and anti bullying . She can also be seen on occasion belting out the national anthems for the Raptor 905 games at the Paramount Centre in Mississauga. She has performed at weddings, and she enjoys writing songs and scores for short films and movies, having recently written the beautiful song "In My Heart" for the multi award winning short film "Heart Strings", including a music video for her original song as well. She is currently busy writing and producing her first full length album , and she is excited to share her stories through her music with the world and can’t wait for you to hear them all!!
Open mic slots are about 5 minutes long and anyone interested in performing can email programming@studio89.org to sign up, though there may be some spots available the night of the event. All styles are welcome (spoken word, music, magic, comedy, dance, etc), provided acts are respectful and mindful of others. Feel free to invite friends and share this event to help spread the word! *There will be two microphones, two microphone stands, a PA system, and a two-input Fender acoustic amp available for use. Please bring any backing music on a phone with a jack that can connect to the mixing board.
